The life of a dinghy is usually one of endless patience. It is a life of waiting, of playing second fiddle.

The dictionary is relatively kind to the humble dinghy:

Pronunciation [ding-gee]
–noun, plural -ghies.
1. any small boat designed as a tender or lifeboat, esp. a small ship’s boat, rowed, sailed, or driven by a motor.

Laura has been known to remark about the pleasing hull form of some small craft, so it is no surprise that her eye was recently drawn to a group of waiting dinghies at Whittaker Creek:
