This is Page 2 of 5 of NC Cycle in Oriental
The cyclists came in spurts and that may have had less
to do with their individual skill sets and more to do with the
ferry. The route most of the cyclists took involved the Aurora
Ferry across the Pamlico River, and that involved a wait. One
cyclist reported that his colleagues were jittery waiting for
the ferry on the north side of the river and just racing out
once it reached Aurora. Several ferry runs were necessary to
accomodate hundreds of cyclists each trip.

Most riders wereon standard upright road bikes, but recumbent
models like this were not uncommon.
|
|
This recumbent bike sported a plastic enclosed "trunk",
to which rider George from Fonda, NY added Halloween decorations.
|
When the
bicyclist arrived into town...two 18 wheel trucks where already
in place on Front Street (the street was closed off rather like
it is during CroakerFest). They had been with the group for
the whole trip, and their only purpose was to provide hot showers.

In line for "Rubber Duckies" hot showers.
|
|
Luggage was carried by truck for the cyclers....and hundreds
of bags awaited on the street.
|
|
Where's my bag?
|
Hundreds
of the cyclists ate a shrimp dinner put on by the Oriental Rotary
Club on the grounds of the Neuse River Motel. Singer Robert
McDuffy of Beaufort sang and prizes were given away by local
businesses.
