ORIENTAL DINGHY CLUB - ORIENTAL LASER FLEET

2005 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1.     RULES:  Racing Rules Of Sailing, US Sailing Prescriptions, Laser Class Rules, these instructions and posted notices.

 

2.     ENTRIES:  The Regatta is open to all Laser Sailors at least 35 years old who register at the official picnic table.  Life jackets must be worn.

 

3.     NOTICES:  Notices will be posted at the official picnic table and at the Saturday night dinner.

 

4.     CHANGES:  Changes will be posted just after the skippers meeting on Saturday and by 0800 Sunday.

 

5.     SIGNALS MADE ASHORE:  A horn signal followed by a verbal announcement will be made at the launching area if racing is postponed.

 

6.     SCHEDULE:  Saturday: First warning at 1100. Sunday: First warning 0900, no warning after 1330.  As many races will be sailed as time and conditions allow.

 

7.     RACING AREA, COURSES and MARKS:  The racing area will be on the Neuse River off the town of Oriental. The courses will be OLYMPIC (Triangle-W-L-W), with about a 60 degree inside angle between reaches, designated by the letter “O” on the committee boat, or, WINDWARD LEEWARD, 5 legs, or 3 legs, leave marks to port, designated by the letter “W5” or”W3”.  The marks will be orange or yellow tetrahedrons.  There may be a windward offset mark for “W” courses.

 

8.     START - Rule 26:  The Warning flag will be a Laser Class flag. The STARTING LINE will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and the LEEWARD mark.

 

9.     CHANGE OF COURSE:  Marks may be moved without signal  (modifies Rule 33) if no boat is on that leg.  Expect to go up and downwind (except for reaching legs).

 

10.   FINISH:  The finish will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on a Race Committee boat and the WINDWARD mark.  The TIME LIMIT is one hour thirty minutes for the 1st boat to finish.  Courses may be shortened at the discretion of the RC.

 

11.   PROTESTS:  Protesters must report intent to the finishing RC boat after that race and file a protest form at the official picnic table within 30 minutes of shore sound signal.

 

12.   SCORING:  Rule A2, Low point system, with Masters handicaps.  One discard with five or more races.  One race shall constitute a series.  No separate radial scores.

 

13.      CHECK IN/OUT:  Check in with the Committee before each days racing and let someone know if you leave the course area before the racing is finished.

 

14.      RIGS:  You may choose either a full or radial rig for each days racing.
