He wasn’t there, but friends of John Standley celebrated anyway, and blew out the candles at a party celebrating his 70th birthday, which is today. A pilot, who joined the US Army 50 years ago this winter, John is currently flying in Iraq and aims to be back in Oriental next month. His friends gathered at M&Ms a few nights ago to send him a surprise greeting.
