A junk-rigged schooner departs Oriental. A junk rig has a short-ish freestanding mast that doesn’t need wire stays to keep the mast upright. On this schooner, just built and as yet unnamed, the battens are thin strips of wood tied to the sail with lengths of line. For another view of the boat, click here.
