October Update 10-23-06

Pecan Grove Yacht Owners Association, Inc. Announces Its 2006 Annual Meeting

As required by the Bylaws of Pecan Grove Yacht Owners Association, Inc. the 2006 PGYOA Annual Meeting will be on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 9:00 A.M. EST in the Pecan Grove Marina Clubhouse, 685 Oriental Road, Oriental, NC 28571. This meeting is for all slip owners who owned their slips before October 9, 2006. At the meeting, owners will approve a budget for 2007 and elect directors and officers.

Pig Picking

Pecan Grove Yacht Owners Association concludes its 2006 activities with its Annual Pig Picking. They will meet at the Clubhouse at 2:00 P.M. for snacks and conversation. At 3:00 P.M., they will serve the pig, chicken, and all the usual fixings. This is a great time to catch up on this year's adventures and family stories. Please bring a platter of snacks or desert to share. All marina residents are invited.

New Furniture

The Association has started replacement of furnishings in the Pool House and the Clubhouse. The photo above show the new furniture.

September Update 09-15-06

The photo shows one of the temporary braces we have attached to a power pedestal. These braces will support corroded pedestals until we replace all them with corrosion-resistant ones.

We are two-thirds through the 2006 hurricane season. So far, so good. But we are right in the middle of the active part of the season. The next photo shows a boat where the owner has removed all canvas and sails. This is a good step to prevent damage to the boat if we should have a hurricane at the Marina. Other smart steps include removing and stowing the shore power cable, doubling up the dock lines, and extending lines across to cleats at adjoining slips. PGYOA recommends that all docklines be in good condition and at least 35ft long.

June Update 06-18-06

Our first hurricane season event was Tropical Storm Alberto. Alberto produced several gloomy and rainy days with gusty winds as the storm past to the west. We had no noticeable damage to the Marina or any boats.

The weather following the storm was beautiful with many Pecan Grove Marina slips empty over the weekend of June 17-18. We suspect that many boats were off for the Neuse Sailing Association weeklong trip.

A number of residents got a chance to enjoy our pool this weekend.

May Update 05-15-06

Here's some pictures of of Pecan Grove Marina people enjoying the Spring Fling.

Our Dockmaster has been working to spruce up the Marina.

April Update 04-10-06

The Association hired Terry Prescott in March to dredge the high spots in the channel before the end of this year's dredging season. The photos show Terry removing a large log from the channel near the Clubhouse, offloading dredged material to a truck, and a marina boat outbound in the cleared channel.

Winter Update 02-15-06

Winter is about half over. It is time to think about getting back out on the water. Of note are the improvements that we have done over the winter. The shed is essentially complete except for a piece of trim. In addition, we have expanded the trash receptacle areas to hold the cans better. The Spring Fling Social will be on March 18, 2006. We will publish the details at the next update. Also of note is that the PGYOA Directors and Officers will meet also on March 18 at 9:00 in the clubhouse. If you have agenda items for discussion, please send them to jim.giles@coastalnet.com. We will publish the minutes soon after the meeting so there is no reason to take your sailing time to attend.

December Update 12-12-05

Construction work is underway on the storage-shed addition at the pool house. The shed, which the members approved at their annual meeting in November, will house Marina tools and other gear that we have kept outside on the Clubhouse porch. David Hodges and crew are doing the work.

Work is also complete on broadband wireless Internet access at the Marina. Keith Smith of DockLine Village Internet, www.dockline.net , provides the access capability. Please check out his web site for information on pricing and how you can easily access it from your boat or anywhere in the Marina.
