Dr. Sherri Hicks

Doctor Sherri Hicks traces her start as a veterinarian to her days in the Marine Corps. While stationed at Parris Island, she got her very first dog which she named “Private”. But he soon outranked Sherri when it came to medical issues. Heartworms as a puppy, chronic skin problems. “I spent more time at Private’s medical appointments than my own ,” Sherri says. And during that time, she says, she realized she also wanted to help animals and their owners.

Sherri has been running Oriental Village Veterinary Hospital since the Spring of 2004. (That’s when she crossed Wendythe river after working at Brigadoon Animal Hospital in Cape Carteret.) She loves the village atmosphere in Oriental, and is perhaps best known as “the vet who climbed in through the doggie door” when a fire broke out near a client’s home.
