Hurricane Earl Whirlpool Swirls
Observed At The Duck PondSeptember 4, 2010
After Hurricane Earl left town Friday there was one cyclonic activity observed. Water in the Duck Pond was leaving so fast thru the culvert that went under Hodges Street to the harbor, that a whirlpool formed. Like the hurricane itself, it swirled counterclockwise.
Usually the only movement at the Duck Pond are swirls of baitfish. On Friday, a whirlpool formed as water emptied toward the harbor via a culvert underneath Hodges Street.

The Duck Pond’s “earlpool”. After Hurricane Earl pressed north, this vortex was visible Friday morning. The Duck Pond dragon was not affected.
