Happy Pamlico Groundhog Day, a county tradition celebrated since 1840.
At precisely 7:27 this morning, Pamlico Jack emerged from his burrow and sat on Oriental’s Town Dock. Pamlico Jack looked about for two solid minutes, but did not see his shadow, signifying that the winter of 2012 will soon end.

Dock In Harborfront Swap Proposal | January 31, 2012
The dock and (mainly on the left) the lot that Chris Fulcher proposes to give to the Town in exchange for the Town abandoning its right of way at South Avenue and on the harborfront. That proposal formally came in a letter last week. The story is here.

Coming to Oriental’s Old Theater… The Tree That Stopped A Single Wide. This scene played out Tuesday as the mobile home headed to the end of Church Street took a sharp corner. A crape myrtle in front of Bama’s Village Food Emporium snagged the back end and roof. Crews worked to separate branches from shingles.
