On their first day out Bernie & Woody made their way from Oriental to Dawson's Creek. They would take the ferry at Minnesott Beach the following day.

On the road to Dawsons Creek.

Camped at the Casey's in Dawson's Creek, Oriental villager Ken Brandon visited the man and his mule. A retired engineer, Brandon often finds creative engineering solutions to things around the village - and route planning for a mule trip proved to be no exception. Note both Woody & Bernie examining the proposed route.

Last we saw Bernie - departing Dawson's Creek Thursday morning.

Editors note: Bernie Harberts has agreed to send TownDock.net periodic updates on his mule trip from the sea to the mountains of North Carolina. We will share them with you as they come in.
Thanks to Ben Casey for taking many of the photos for this story.
